Speed Braces
What are “Speed Braces”?
As the term implies, “Speed Braces” work faster that traditional braces. “Speed Braces” is known officially as Accelerated Osteogenic Orthodontics (AOO) or Wilckodontics. Traditionally, teeth only move in response to pressure from the orthodontic brackets and wires that are attached to the teeth. With “Speed Braces,” however, an additional procedure is performed on the gums to make the bone adapt quicker. When this procedure is combined with traditional orthodontics, teeth move 50-75% more quickly.
How do “Speed Braces” work?
The braces used to speed up treatment are no different than traditional braces, except
that they are combined with a special procedure to make the bone turnover happen more
quickly. First, the braces go on the teeth and then a surgical gum procedure is performed
by a periodontist. After this procedure, bone metabolism is increased temporarily altering
the mineral content allowing for rapid and predictable orthodontic tooth movement. This
effect can last up to six to nine months after the AOO procedure which permits rapid
orthodontic correction.
How often do you need to be seen with “Speed Braces”?
We will adjust your braces about every two weeks.
How long do “Speed Braces” take?
Patients with braces and AOO surgery are usually in treatment for only 3-9 months. Afterward,
they still must wear retainers to keep their great bite and new smile.
How much does “Speed Braces” treatment cost?
Generally, treatment costs are double the usual cost for braces alone primarily due the specialized periodontal procedure.
Are the results as good as with traditional braces?
Research has shown that AOO is as stable and long-lasting as conventional orthodontic braces. In addition, studies have found that there is more bone after AOO (Speed Braces) when compared to traditional braces. In the end, you will have a beautiful smile and a healthy bite in 3-6 months.
